Intermediate and Senior Estimators: Harvey 1496

We are one of Western Canada’s most prolific and dynamic bridge builders. Over the past 35 years, we have designed, supplied, and successfully erected over 5,000 permanent and portable bridges for both the major transportation and resource industries. In recent years, we have expanded our company and customer base to provide structural and architectural pre-cast concrete installation, tunnel construction, run-of-river hydro projects, equipment/operator rentals, welding, and pile driving services. Due to the growing number of opportunities, we are expanding our heavy civil construction division. We have several career opportunities in our Estimating and Project Management Departments for individuals with positive, results-driven attitudes, great interpersonal and communication skills, and who are able to interact effectively with clients, subcontractors, and other contractors.

Senior Estimator:
The senior estimator oversees the estimating team for an assigned area while preparing and/or coordinating complete conceptual and final estimating on large complex work or complete total bid pricing, resolves technical matters during negotiation and contract execution, reviews estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness and uses knowledge to focus work and drive short and long term solutions.

Responsibilities will include:
- Providing clear direction to estimating team members and distributing workload to capitalize on individual and group strengths while ensuring balanced exposure to work experience and development opportunities.
- Supervises quantity take-offs for all areas of the estimate while ensuring the take-off is well notated for hand-over to the project team
- Analyzes plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bid estimates for projects, performs complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, and pricing.
- Manages all aspects of bidding: procuring new projects to bid, ordering proposals, project site investigation, material and subcontractor solicitation, estimating labour and equipment costs, and creating bid proposals.
- Interfaces and communicates with all levels of management, clients and contacts, contacts and develops business relationships with subcontractors and supplier for pricing within estimates.
- Preparing final estimate summaries, analyzing each section for scope, pricing, and completeness.
- Participating in estimate reviews with the Chief Estimator.
- Support Project Managers, providing contractor recommendations and change order reviews
- Complete post-bid analyses on jobs bid. Track bidding success and percentages, and analyses fiscal period bid performance.

Required Qualifications shall include:

- Completion of post-secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Construction Management, Quantity Surveying and/or Estimating.
- 5+ years construction estimating experience including a variety of complex multi-disciplinary projects.
- Valid class 5 drivers licence.
- Understanding of construction documents and the ability to ensure that they are complete, protect the owner’s interest, clearly define expectations, and provided incentive to perform.
- Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, ability to plan and manage to a project schedule, contract negotiation/management skills.
- Has developed technical knowledge of modern construction practices, techniques, and equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of construction materials and techniques
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- The ability to make timely and rational decisions under pressure

This is a fulltime position.
Salary is open depending on experience.
