Transportation/Bridges Project Manager: Harvey 1683
Reports to: Regional VP
Location: Edmonton
Primary: Project Manager L4
Secondary: Account Manager L4
Role Summary:
Reporting to Regional VP, the incumbent is responsible for management, project planning and operation of transportation projects with large bridge components. Acting as Project Manager, he/she leads projects and teams within the defined area of specialization, and assumes a business development role maintaining existing and developing new business relations with transportation infrastructure owners, large bridge contractors and industry partners.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to
Project Management: (75%)
- Implements business and process requirements of major clients for bridge and transportation projects
- Reviews commercial terms of contract and agreements for conformance to best business practices
- Proactively manages and executes projects according to schedules and budget
- Coordinates with multiple disciplines and across multiple offices to establish project role and task division
- Prepares work breakdown structures, budgets and schedules for multi-discipline projects
- Effectively manages resources to meet aggressive schedules and optimizes efficiency of delivery
- Monitors and reports earned value, risk, outstanding project issues and profitability
- Manages internal and external understanding of project scope to proactively identify required changes in scope to prevent scope creep
- Acts as primary client contact to ensure satisfaction with assigned resources and project progress
- Reviews deliverables for conformance to client expectations in content and format
- Implements quality control procedures and assurances
- Prepares monthly invoices along with progress reports for clients
- Identifies talent and defines targets for performance for employees on project teams
- Contributes to identifying better business and project practices
Business Development (20%)
- Establishes and maintains working relationships with new and existing clients
- Models and promotes the company's core values and culture through superseding customer service
- Promotes the company's advantages and qualities with new and existing clients
- Seeks out new projects that may exist or are being formulated
- Develops pursuit strategy and leads the preparation of proposals and presentations
- Leads the engineering man-hour estimation and proposal pricing along with project managers
- Contributes to the development of marketing literature
- Works together with internal project managers and business development staff in the pursuit of projects
- Provides market feedback to management
- Promotes the company within his/her professional network and business community
- Coordinates with business partners in the consulting and construction industry to pursue and deliver
- Design-Build and P3 projects
Strategic Management (5%)
- Contributes to key account management, business development strategy, and key project pursuits related to active clients
- In collaboration with VP, Business Development and Regional VP develops strategies for new markets, clients and opportunities
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Minimum of B.Sc in engineering. Post-graduate degree in engineering or business preferred
- 7-10 years previous related engineering and business development experience with an emphasis on Alberta
- Strong business acumen coupled with solid technical skills in managing transportation projects
- Strong ability to see projects through from concept to completion within a professional services environment
- Experience and reputation with local Alberta clients such as Alberta Transportation, local municipalities, Parks Canada, Public Works and Government Services Canada, etc.
- Previous experience in or with the oil and gas industry considered an asset
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to prepare proposals and review agreement terms
- Self-motivated, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Ability to work with staff located remotely
- Ability and willingness to travel predominantly in Western Canada, and Eastern Canada, US, Central or South America on occasion
This is a fulltime position.
Salary is open depending on experience.
